Queen AjiBidaraPutih

Muara Kaman lies along the Mahakam River, in eastern Borneo. In the past the area was a kingdom ruled by Queen AjiBidaraPutih. She was a typical queen of myths: beautiful, wise, and sensitive. Many princes and kings proposed to her but she always refused them because she was more concerned with ruling her country and guarding her people.
One day, a Chinese boat came to eastern Borneo. First, the people thought it was a merchant ship but the boat was loaded with trade goods and highly trained soldiers. Their envoys brought gold and porcelain to announce the marriage proposal from a prince of China. The queen didn’t refuse instantly and replied that she had to ponder the proposal first. After the envoys left the palace, the queen called a court officer and ordered him to infiltrate the Chinese boat to gather information on the prince. When night fell the officer sneaked onto the boat, got by all the guards, and finally found the prince’s room. The large door would not open and he couldn’t find a peek hole, so the officer put his ear to the wall, trying to catch sounds from inside. He heard that the prince was having his dinner and the noise of his chewing and slurping surprised the officer. It was like a boar that he had once heard when he was hunting. He quickly left the boat and returned to the palace. He reported that the prince must have been a phantom, not a human. He believed that the phantom could be in a human’s form only during the daytime. The queen was so surprised and got angry. On the next day, she refused his proposal.
The enraged prince ordered his troops to raid Muara Kaman. The battle was won by the prince’s huge band of troops. As they drew near to the palace, Queen AjiBidaraPutih chewed a leaf of betel vine and sang a mantra while holding it. When she threw it at the Chinese troops, it turned to giant centipedes. The Chinese troops started to retreat but three centipedes chased them and sank the boat. The site of the sunken ship is now known as Danau Lipan (Lake of Centipedes), with Chinese treasures hidden on the lake’s bed.

It is really an unpleasant condition but most people in my village learn that they have to help one another and work together to face the problems. Houses located on safe areas are made into emergency public kitchens to provide meals for the flood victims.

I hope it will end soon but, It seems impossible due to the heavy rain that keeps falling everyday.
This is the most unpleasant time I have ever had. I am happy to share it with you.

Your best friend,

Tari

He had an idea. “I’m sorry, Tiger. I can’t be your lunch now. The King has ordered me to guard his cake,” said Mouse Deer calmly. “His cake?” said Tiger curiously. “Yes, there it is. It’s very delicious. The King doesn’t want anyone else to eat it, so he ordered me to guard it,” Mouse Deer pointed the buffalo’s dung. “Can I taste it?” Tiger asked. “Of course you can’t. The King would be very angry,” said Mouse Deer refused. “Just one little bite, Mouse Deer! The King will never know,” said Tiger.
“Well, okay, Tiger. But first let me run far away, so the King won’t blame me,” said Mouse Deer. “All right, Mouse deer. You can go now.” Mouse Deer ran quickly out of sight. Tiger then took a big mouthful of the ‘cake’. “Phoooey!” He spit it out. “Yuck, that’s not cake. That’s buffalo’s dung.”

We were off to a nearby campground. We drove in and paid for our site. It was beautiful. There were ducks and a small lake and up on the hill there was a pool and small store if you needed anything.
At dusk we lit our fire. It was very nice and pleasant. However I had a small allergy problem with mosquitoes. I hate bugs, and mosquitoes seem to be the worse, due to their stinging and being irritating. It was awful, but the camp fire was nice. Jacklyn told me about her camping stories. They were really interesting.

After a full night of stories and fire, we settled in out the tent. We slept in our sleeping bags on the ground. To my surprise, the ground was not wet, and we had a small air mattress under us. Of course, the mattress wasn’t as comfortable as mine at home but it was no problem.
Then in the middle of the night I heard scuffling just out of our tent. I woke Jacklyn and I told her that there was a bear in our camp. She told me to just go back to sleep. I really didn’t know that there were bears in local camp grounds.
The next morning I woke to the same noises and found the culprit. It was ducks. I felt so stupid. To this day we still talked about my first camping trip.
It was a very memorable experience.

The following text for the questions number 31 to 33.
Snakes are reptiles (cold-blooded creatures). They belong to the same group as lizards (the scaled group, Squamata) but form a sub-group of their own (Serpentes).
Snakes have no legs but a long time ago they had claws to help them slither along.
Snakes are not slimy. They are covered in scales which are just bumps on the skin. Their skin is hard and glossy to reduce friction as the snake slithers along the ground.
Snakes often sun bake on rocks in the warm weather. This is because snakes are cold-blooded and they need the sun’s warmth to heat their body up.
Most snakes live in the country. Some types of snakes live in trees; some live in water, but most live on the ground in deserted rabbit burrows, in thick, long grass and in old logs.
A snake’s diet usually consists of frogs, lizards, and mice and other snakes. The Anaconda can eat small crocodiles and even wild boars.
Many snakes protect themselves with their fangs. Boa Constrictors can give you a bear hug which is so powerful. It can crush every single bone in your body. "Gecko" is the common name for any of about 65 species of small lizards of the family Gekkonidae. They can be commonly found in tropical regions worldwide.
Most geckos are nocturnal, hiding during the day and foraging for insects at night. They frequently make their homes in trees, and their remarkable climbing ability is due to tiny ridges and microscopic suction cups on their feet which can enable them to walk across a smooth ceiling.
Unlike many lizards, geckos have a keen sense of hearing, and they are unique among lizards in their ability to make chirping or clicking sounds. In fact, the name "gecko" is alleged to be a derivative of a Malay word that is an imitation of the lizard's call.
Geckos can range in size from 1 to 12 inches (3 to 30 cm). They have broad, flattened heads, and thick stumpy tails which they can drop in defense during a fight, and later re-grow. Two ducks which lived in a big lake had a friend, a turtle. One year there was a very little rain and the lake began to dry up. When they told the turtle they were going to leave, he said, “I’ll die here without any water and without any friends. Take me with you.” The ducks answered,” We can’t. We are going to fly, and you have no wings.” The turtle thought for a minutes and then said, “please wait here.” Then he went away and found a strong, straight stick. He brought it back to his friends, put the middle of it in his mouth and said,” Now if each of you takes me ones end of the stick in his mouth, you can lift me up and carry me with you.”
“There is one danger,’ said the ducks,” If you try to talk while we’re carrying you through the air, you won’t be able to hold the stick, so you we’ll fall dawn along way and break your shell”
“All right,” answered the turtle,” I promise not to talk while we’re in the air. So the ducks took the stick and flew away, with the turtle between them. All went well until they were flying over a town. Then some people saw them and shouted,” Look!, those ducks are carrying a cat!”
The turtle got very angry, ’A cat? I’m not……….” He said, but he did not get any further, because when he opened his mouth, the stick came out of his mouth and the poor turtle fell to the ground.

Indonesian culinary varies depending on the area. Rice is the main dish of mostly Indonesian and it is served with meat or vegetables. In the eastern part of the country the main dish is sago. Spices (mostly chili), coconut milk, fish and chicken meat are important ingredients for Indonesian cooking.
Some Indonesian meals are popular not only in Indonesia but also in foreign countries. Sate, gulai (lamb soup), curry, rawon (meat soup), nasi goreng, rendang, gado-gado, meat ball, tahu, tempe, etc. are some popular food. Even sambel uleg (traditional chili sauce) has been exported to some European countries. A recent research (as broadcasted on TVs in January 2013) has proved that nasi goreng is the first most favorite food in the world. People call it “nasi goreng”, not “fried rice” (in English translation). It means that the name nasi goreng has been internationally known. Surprisingly, the second most wanted meal is rendang, another food from Sumatra.
There are also light snacks like traditional cakes sold in traditional market. Recently they are also available in modern market. Those cakes are usually made of rice, glutinous rice, cassava, yam, flour, sago, potato, etc.
Some interesting kinds of food are offered by the street vendors using food carts. People can easily find them in towns and cities. The number of the vendors commonly increases in the evening.

Dear Dina,
How are you getting along? It has been quite some times since I wrote to you. I hope you and your family are doing well. As you can see from the address above, I have moved from my previous house. My father sold off the double storey terrace house and moved from my previous to a double storey semi-detached house.
I like the new house. The compound is so much bigger than the old house. There are more rooms and we have bigger garden. My father said that we could have a swimming pool in the garden if we want to.
However, my mother said she would rather have a garden complete with waterfall. As from me, I would rather have a space for playing football or badminton. I am sure my father will listen to my mother. Poor me!
How about visiting me and seeing our new house? I have already found a river which is good for fishing. I think you will enjoy a weekend here. See you soon!

Eucalyptus is the genus of trees and some shrubs of the myrtle family. This genus, which includes over 800 species, forms the preponderant vegetation and most valuable timber trees of western Australian forests. Eucalyptus trees are characterized by leathery, whitish leaves that hang vertically, their edges facing the sun, and their ragged bark and peculiar aroma. Some trees in the genus are among the tallest trees known. One specimen of mountain ash with a height of at least 97 m (at least 318 ft) was found near Melbourne, Australia.
Many species are known as gum trees because of their resinous exudations. Among these are the blue gum and the cider gum, the lumber of which is widely used. Other species are known as stringybarks because of their fibrous inner bark. The peppermint trees, black peppermint and Sydney peppermint, are also included in this group. The ironbarks have hard gray bark and yield good timber. Botany Bay kino, a dark red, odorless gum employed as an astringent and a hemostatic drug and for tanning and dyeing, is derived from the ironbarks. The bloodwoods have reddish wood and also yield Botany Bay kino. Dragon's blood, tannin, oils, dyes, tars, and acids are yielded by other species of eucalyptus.

Once upon a time, there lived an orphan named Yaoh. As winter rolled in, he had no wood to start up a fire to warm up the house. He was cold. So, he decided to look for some wood to build a fire. He went searching down a flat hill with an axe. Yaoh looked and looked, as he came across a huge tree. He was thrilled and started chopping it. The echoes of the chopping sound lingered across the mountains.
On top of the tree was an eagle’s nest. She heard and felt the chopping vibrations and thought it was an earthquake. “What is that annoying noise?!” she asked herself. Frightened, the mother eagle looked down to see what was going on, only to find out someone was about to chop her family down. The mother eagle swiftly flew down and asked, “What are you doing?”
Yaoh replied, “I am cold, I have no wood to build a fire so I came down here to get some wood. I need this wood to heat up my house.” The eagle looked at him with fear in her eyes and said, “You’re going to destroy my family if you chop this tree down. My babies have no feathers yet so we cannot move.”
Yaoh felt sorry for the eagle. He then stopped chopping. When he was about to leave, the mother eagle said, “If all you need is wood, I can take you to the moon to get some gold so you can buy wood. Just go home, get some rest, come back very early tomorrow morning with a big bag. I will take you there to get some gold.” After the mother eagle assured the orphan Yaoh a few times, he believed her and went home.
Yaoh got as much material as he could to sew a bag. He was poor so he didn’t have much. He spent that whole night sewing the bag and before he realized, it was morning already. He rushed down to the valley where the eagle said she would meet him.
Then, Yaoh climbed onto the eagle’s back, and she flew him all the way to the moon. He stuffed his bag with as much gold as he could. “The sun is going to rise and burn us! You’d better hurry up!” the eagle said. Frightened but satisfied with what he got, he jumped up onto the eagle’s back and they flew off as the sun started rising. “Whew! You almost got us burned!” the eagle cried out.
After this, Yaoh lived like a rich man. He bought himself wood, clothes, food, all that a rich man could buy, but most importantly he built himself a house.

Dietary Fiber
Dietary fiber, also known as roughage, is a type of carbohydrate, which is indigestible to humans. Dietary fiber comes from vegetables, fruit, grain and legumes.
There are two types of dietary fiber, namely soluble and insoluble. Soluble fiber dissolves in water, like the pectin found in fruit. The examples of soluble fiber are many vegetables, barley, oatmeal, rye and fruits like peaches, grapes, berries and pears. It’s important to eat the skin of fruits like apples, since that is where most of the fiber resides. On the other hand, insoluble fiber, such as cellulose from grain, doesn’t dissolve in water. Whole grains, pasta, bran, brown rice, seeds, bran, beans and a few vegetables like carrots and celery, provide insoluble fiber.
Proper amounts of dietary fiber improve health in ways other than digestion. Studies have shown that fiber seems to lower cholesterol, in combination with a balanced diet. There is also an inexplicable link between a diet high in fiber and a lowered risk of heart disease. In the stomach, fiber seems to affect the speed with which sugar enters the bloodstream. This means our blood sugar levels stay more consistent, our insulin doesn’t work as hard, and we benefit from a reduced risk of developing diabetes.

It thought, “If I just left the deer, it is okay. It won’t run away for it’s already dead. If I don’t chase the goat, I will miss another good meal.”
